How Does The Process Work?
Getting to know the student and his/her writing voice and explaining the essay process
- Meet in person or confer over the phone (video chat available)
- Familiarize the student with the Do's and Don'ts of college essay writing
- Make the student aware of the appropriate options for style, tone and substance
Brainstorm essay topics
- Discuss personal histories, experiences, interests, and activities
- Share successful essays (anonymously) from prior students (demonstrating that everyday topics can become exceptional essays)
- Outline writing points to be included in draft(s)
- Agree upon appropriate deadlines
Once I receive an essay draft by email that is consistent with my guidelines, I will edit and polish it into a final essay that is ready for submission. For undergraduates, this is how we move through the entire college application process. For graduate school applicants, we proceed the same way, but the process is typically shorter and tailored to the specific specialty school or program.
